Deciding to begin therapy and choosing a therapist can feel overwhelming. I know from experience how daunting this process can be. So, let's make this process a little easier with some helpful info on getting started.
Not sure if I am the right therapist for you? Book a free phone consultation to see if we might be a good fit to work together. During this call, I can answer questions you might have, explain the theoretical approaches that I use and how I approach working with my clients.
What to expect in the first session:
During our first session together, we will go over informed consent to ensure that you understand the scope and limitations of our work together. This is also the time where we discuss what brings you to therapy and any goals you might have. Not sure? Let's explore that together! These goals can also change as we unpack the experiences that you have had and learn more about how these experiences have shaped you.
The first session is primarily focused on creating a picture of your life and the experiences that you have had, such as how you grew up, your cultural background, and what your life looks like today. Some clients prefer to spend the first session sharing their story, while others prefer to answer questions and build trust before sharing. I welcome both and cater my approach to your needs and preferences.
Your feedback matters! Throughout our sessions, I will check in with you to see how you are feeling, if what we are discussing resonates or needs clarification and any thoughts you might have. Throughout each session, you are in the driver's seat and I am along for the journey. Occasionally, I will ask to take a turn or pull over, but know that you are always in control and I will respect your pace and the direction you wish to go.

Yes! If you are interested in using private health insurance (e.g., Blue Cross, Manulife, etc.), please confirm that Registered Clinical Counsellors are covered under your plan prior to your first appointment. If you are using private health insurance, a receipt will be provided that you can submit to your provider. Please note that payment of fees is the responsibility of the client and is due at the time of service.
I do not bill extended health providers directly and it is your responsibility to verify with your insurance whether the sessions will be covered. Many extended health plans cover counsellors with an RCC designation.

Yes! I have set aside a few sliding scale spots for those who are unable to pay the full rate. Members of BIPOC and 2SLGBTQAI+ communities will be prioritized as well as anyone experiencing financial hardship that would prevent them from accessing timely mental health support.
If cost is a barrier, please contact me directly to discuss my sliding scale rates.
